Painting and anchoring benches on the sidewalk
Current Status - Completed October 2017
A group of 30 youth from Minneapolis, Minnesota ( short-term mission hosted by YWAM - San Antonio del Mar) painted the exterior of remaining houses in the neighborhood and prepared the sidewalk to anchor wooden benches. A neighbor Reymund and another homeless person helped to do the cement job following Monday
to complete the job.
Cost - $ 77 Uds for paints, painting supplies, 2 sacks of cement, gravel and sand. And 6 bottles of water and soda ( just for 3 people on Monday) bought from the corner grocery store driving local economy up in the process. The day temperature was 100 Fahrenheit which explains why the consumption of liquid was so high.

Purchase of additional canopy tents, folding chairs , folding table and benches
Current Status: Need on-going basis
Bethesda is an outreach ministry with 4 services weekly on the street. We take them out of storage room and set it up and then take them down to repeat over and over. Because of its heavy use the average life of canopy is 4 months, folding chair, 6 months and a table 1 year.
The cost of item item is $ 85 Uds, $ 7 Uds and $ 50 Usd, respectively. We'd need these items all the time. You can inquire us how many of each item we'd need. You can purchase them in a store like Walmart in San Diego or Chula Vista in advance and swing by there to for pick up before entering Mexico.

Rehabilitate Mobile Kitchen to its original condition and use it to serve hot meal to people
Current Status - To start
Mobile kitchen, the first ever big-dollar-item purchase by Bethesda ministry, was one time used to cook and heat meals to serve people during the church on the street service and taqueria for ministry event. Once we had a indoro storage safe from the theft or vandalism. Now that it's parked on the street, it fell to the victim of all kind of petty crimes, tearing apart to use the material for whatever they had in mind ( movable parts such as frying baskets and gas tube were taken from the mobile kitchen adn stored inthe storage room only to be robbed by the " ministry" . we had removed one tire in order to prevent someone stealing it. Over the period we became the security expert and in the process we learned how to protect the property. Our plan is invest another $ 500 Usd to restore to its original condition and resume preparing and serving hoty meals to people specially on winter months.
Cost estimate - you'd fund the project and hire welder and plumber. Your team would work as "journeymen" workign alongside them.. 5 people one day.

Raising of barrier to block the view entirely and sound partially from the strip club across the street
Current status - As soon as possible
Men's shelter, Principe de Paz ( Pastor Marisela) which just opened in October this year has the entire front open to full view of a strip club, Chicago, diagonally across the street. With neon signs flashing, loud music and some scantly dressed ladies in bikini dancing on the sidewalk to promote the strip club it is total distraction to the people staying overnight in the shelter. It's hardly conducive to relaxing atmospherea shelter needs to be. Pastor Marisela and I spoke about the matter and came to the initial conclusion that a barrier would be needed to fend off the harmful image and sound to the best way possible. The shelter in question is located on the edge of red-light district.
Estimated cost - we have to consult with more people in the field of general contractor for the best possible solutions within the budget of $ 500 Uds or less. Labor - 10 people for one day.

Reception Center for Deportees in Front of Garita Chaparral @ the Border
Current status - In Plan
Every day close to 100 people ( 36,500 a year) are deported to Tijuana. Even thought they receive assistance by the government or Grupo Beta, it suffice to say it's limited and temporal. Reception Center at the borders is to be their first stop for a cup of cold ice drink or hot coffee depending on the hour of day. More over comfortable seating and lobby equipped with internet, telephone to make calls to families, friends or helps from both side are available.
At the counter, center personnel will be available at all hour to answer their questions and give information on shelters, churches and other helps whether that may be medical, social or legal and chaplains to provide spiritual needs and prayer.
In October 2017, we just rented a space right in front of Garita Chaparral and with conspicuous display of signage, deportees can locate us easily. Next step is to renovate the space and furnish it with suitable furniture, fixture and equipment. In the rear of center, we are going to have a little chapel for prayer, worship and read Bible if one wishes to.
We expect the total cost of opening a reception center could be around $ 1,000 Uds for the furniture, fixture and tenant improvements. The job would call for 5-7 people one full day including shopping for used furniture.

Estimated Cost - we have to seat down with the person/party interested in carrying out this project to estimate the cost because they are so many variables at the planning stage.

Restaurant Project - Socio Gastronomy
Current Status: To Start
- Nature of Project - 50 seats restaurant quality open kitchen and dining room to serve meals to serve 100 people a 3-4 courses dinner at 6 pm and 8 pm seatings ( 2 turn-over)
- Ministry Focus - Dignity issue and mercy misison
- Benefit - Allow them to have nutritious & restaurant quality meal and service. It shores up their self-esteem and motivation to improve their daily life.
- Desired Completion Time - As soon as possible
- Approximate Cost - Alternative # 1 - renting by the hour working restaurant during their off-hour ( e.g. they only serve breakfast or light lunch menu. $ 1,000 Usd to buy more kitchenware, silver wares, tables and chairs and operating fund and $ 1,000 Usd for working capital fund. Alternative # 2 - $ 10,000 Usd ( buy more kitchenware, tables and chairs and etc. plus working capital fund) if you are renting a premise fully equipped with kitchen and renovating it. Alternative # 3 - build out the kitchen and everything from the scratch - $ 30,000 Usd
- Details - We have literally several thousand people in downtown Tijuana area whom we can serve healthy and better quality meal. All this could change if we opened a cafeteria where restaurant-quality meal is served and attention to "diners" is comprable to restaurant. We are going to charge 1 dollar a meal but what they'd get is worth $ 7-10 dollarsfor example.
How is this possible ? It's entirely possible because all restaurant personnel will be volunteers but under volunteer professional chef's care and materials are donated to enable to deliver such quality meal.
$ 1 concept is important because we don't believe in hand-out ( it's toxic charity) but we'd like to see people being responsible and to insure this model self-sustaining for the long-haul when we use those money to pay for operating expenses such as rent, utilities and gas for the transportation.
The priority is given to people in our ministry programs such as half-way house and discipleship program and those regularly attending our ministries events. Then next to people engaged in gainful activities and need hand up. Lastly our ministries staff and volunteers as space available.
We did test already on this concept. The 3rd photo is an actual diner we prepared ( organic filet mignon and for drink , Perrier bottled water) and 5th photo is the actual donated food. The rest are the conceptual photos to show what kind of food we will be serving and the interior look of dining room.

Terrace Deck to Use as Outdoor Classroom & Ministry Meeting Place
Current status - Urgent
- Nature of Project - A neighbor gave us rent-free air right to build a terrace deck on top of her house
- Ministry Focus - Extension of church on the street space which will add about 1,500 sq fts of outdoor space with roof structure
- Benefit - We have 8 canopies and 100+ seats outdoor church for worship which has to be set up and taken down each day. It's Ok to have worship service for a couple of hours but not suitable for classroom or other church activities. With the construction of terrace deck located adjacent to church, we will have space for Bible study, meetings and other church-related activities
- Desired Completion Time - As soon as possible
- Approximate Cost - Phase 1 $ 7,000 USD for footing and iron H-beam span: Phase 2 $ 3,000 USD building of wooden deck and Phase 3 - $ 2,000 USD roof structure. The job is to be lead by a professional builder and 10 volunteers several days each phase. Total cost $ 12,000 Usd.
- Details - A neighbor of our ministries let us use space above her house to build a terrace deck. We will pay no rent for perpetuity. If the rent for the space were $ 500 USD per month ( or $ 6,000 for the year) we can recapture the cost of initial investment of $ 12,000 Usd in 2 years. The neighbor likes the idea because she gets capital improvement adding value to her house in exchange for free rent.
